I’m Looking Forward to Fall

I’ve always been a huge summer junkie.  It isn’t surprising:  living in the Midwest means spending more than six months out of the year waiting for the snow to go away.  It isn’t hard to see the attraction of summer – the camping, the festivals, the street concerts, the lakes.  There’s so much to do, and so little time.

This year though?  I’m done with summer. This summer wasn’t filled with the usual summer fun.  This summer was spent hiding in air-conditioned buildings, trying to avoid the multiple 100 degree days that just didn’t break.  It was spent dreading the forecast, and basing our decisions on what we were doing for the weekend on what the dew point was predicted to be.

Summer has worn out its welcome, and I’m ready for fall.

I’m ready for cute sweaters paired with a skirt, tights and boots.  And maybe a sassy scarf.

I’m ready for corduroy.

I’m ready for roasting pumpkin seeds.

I’m ready for a big fat Pumpkin Spice Latte.

I’m ready for comfort food cooked in the crockpot.

I’m ready for crafts made with leaves and gourds.

I’m ready for flannel jammies for me, and footie jammies for Jack.  And maybe my husband.  But don’t tell him I said that.

I’m ready to do all of the stuff on my Fall themed Pinterest board.

I’m ready to use my fireplace again.

I’m ready for cold mornings so I can put on my long sleeved technical shirt, yoga pants, a hat and gloves and go for an eight mile run without feeling like I’m pounding on the very gates of hell.

I’m ready for hot apple cider.

I’m ready for trading in the go-go-go feeling of our rare “nice summer evenings ” for the quiet nights indoors with my family.

I’m ready for leaf-looking.

What are you looking forward to this fall?
