Trust Monkey Butt to spot a bare butt!! The ones I keep seeing are the low jeans with the thongs riding out over the top! Fashion or accident, I don't know!

oh my gosh!!!! My old eyes couldnt' see it at all until the close up. I really like the photos aside from that though. I like that lighting.
The butt cracks are out of control. A few years ago, I noticed that my sisters (all grown women, nearing 40) had them just barely showing when they sat on the floor. What the heck?!!! It's the style of these pants, I guess. I said the same thing to them, "can't you feel that?" We are not an exhibitionist family. Weird. And funny.
By the way, I love your new header. I haven't been around for a while... may not be too new...

We have one video, but no toys. And after the first viewing, the girls had every train memorized, who is who and who does what . . . I still get them confused. We are going to look for some books at the library. At least in the video, the dialogue seems to use a lot of alliteration and interesting word choices to describe the action, which this word geeky mom finds fascinating.

Good to know about the Target trains! We keep a little stock of Matchbox cars for special occasions, sick days, etc., and we can certainly add a few trains to that stack.

I haven't seen the Thomas show yet, and neither has Jack. From what I have heard about it, I think we'll keep it that way. He only has one Thomas book so far but he loves it, so when we hit the library today we'll get a few more.

I'll have to look into the magazine. That actually sounds like something we'd get a lot of use out of - thanks for the tip!

Ah. Welcome to the ridiculous world of Thomas the Tank.

Samuel's obsession began around 13 months with a few books from the library. From there we have acquired 4-5 Thomas trains, 6 IKEA trains, and 4-5 Circo brand ones. We have a train table, more track that I want to admit, Sodor, Hartwell, etc etc. We have books, a subscription to the magazine {which is actually really great & loaded with educational activities}, and his pillow and blanket on his bed are Thomas.

Here is a tip: the Circo trains at Target at $2.99 or so a piece, and they are compatible with the Thomas track. They don't have faces, but instead of buying the $25 Thomas trains regularly they are a great alternative for good behavior, a sick kid, or whatever. I keep a stock of them in my closet for such moments.

Anyway, welcome to the dark side. Just don't watch the show...it is mind numbingly stupid. I remember my brothers watching it in the mid-90s. We watched one episode on YouTube, and both Samuel and I couldn't wait for it to end. The books are way, way better.

I think conferences are a great place to go if you are on the fence. You get to meet actual homeschooling families and see them in action and learn about the options out there.
My daughter was very strongly motivated to go to "real" school for the last year, partly because she is heavily influenced by books, and most books paint school in a very positive light, and partly because she wanted to ride a school bus. I started a campaign of gentle anti school propaganda, pointing out that going to school in a building means you have to do the same thing as everyone else at the same time, and that in our district it is unlikely she would get to ride on a school bus every day. When I finally got around to finding a preschool she could try out, she decided that she would rather continue our current activities then go to school. And now she is proudly telling everyone that "we have school at home!"

I love this post. I think once we are judged we realize how mean we've been...even if it is only in our heads. I really backed down off the judging when Homeslice was about 6 months, and I realized that parenting doesn't define friendships. My friends may parent differently, but we all have the best interest of our families at heart.

When Homeslice weaned himself at 18 months I wrote something about it on Twitter. Literally one tweet. I got a comment back about how awful it was that I let him wean so YOUNG. I laughed since in my social circle he was the last to wean of the nursed kids. And, what was I going to do? Force the kid to nurse when he would rather eat some fruit?

It was then I realized that we all get judged at some point, and the least I can do is be more sympathetic to other moms...even if I disagree with the way they parent. How we parent is better for OUR family, but it may not work for others.
